Ubisoft faces more backlash after a clip from their upcoming Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad mobile game featured Black Lives Matter imagery as a fictional terrorist group called Umbra. The scene shows angry crowds wanting to “bring the system down” with fists in the air that is very similar to the black power fist used by Black Lives Matter.
On August 29th, Ubisoft issues an apology and stated they will remove the imagery. After increasing scrutiny from both social media and their own employees, game director Charlie Guillemot said they will remove the entire opening scene.
We discussed the Guillemot family in detail during the History of Ubisoft special during our Gathered Games event. Charlie is the son of Yves, the CEO.
There is much more details in this story and we suggest you proceed to our source Jason Schreier of Bloomberg.com. He does excellent reporting and gets his information from the employees on the inside.
