We learned this morning that Fall Guys had a creative solution to cheaters: send them to their own server called Cheater Island. According to the Fall Guys twitter account, this was an early version of their anti-cheat process. The background program would flag cheaters then in the next matchmaking session it would put them in a separate server where they would only compete against other cheaters. Their internal description of the island is “a magical place where cheaters could happily compete against themselves for the Cheater’s Crown. Literally just a normal crown but tainted with a hollow feeling of guilt and regret”. If there wasn’t the minimum 40 player to start a match then the player would endlessly fall on the loading screen. Last week is the first time there was enough cheater to fill the island, which made for many fun videos of an entire group warping around the tracks. This fun and creative anti-cheat system is unfortunately being retired. Mediatonic will be switching to Epic’s anti-cheating solution. The game grew bigger and faster than they were expecting and now need to a more stable anti-cheat program.
