Listeners are aware we are major Star Trek: Voyager fans here at Geek Freaks. We believe Janeway is the best captain in Starfleet. So today’s news excites us more than many of the TNG or OS fans. Kate Mulgrew is returning to Starfleet in Nickelodeon’s Star Trek: Prodigy!!!
The announcement came out of the New York Virtual Comic-Con during a Star Trek panel. We don’t exactly know what Kathryn Janeway will be doing in the new series but they do mention that she will be a role model to the young crew. Prodigy follows a group of teens that discover an abandoned ship and use it to explore space.
“I have invested every scintilla of my being in Captain Janeway, and I can’t wait to endow her with nuance that I never did before in Star Trek: Prodigy. How thrilling to be able to introduce to these young minds an idea that has elevated the world for decades. To be at the helm again is going to be deeply gratifying in a new way for me.”

Janeway was an inspiration for a generation as the first female captain and a role model for everyone. She was under extreme pressure from doubters but rose to the occasion. Katheryn Janeway is the perfect person to lead the new ragtag crew of Prodigy as they transform from “lawless” teens to responsible members of Starfleet.
*UPDATE* If you want more Janeway then you’re in luck! There is a new book coming telling the life story on the Captain. “The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway” by Una McCormack will be hitting shelves October 27th.
