D&D fans rejoice! Hasbro has revealed a live-action Dungeons and Dragons series is in the works. According to CBR, the news broke during an earnings call with CEO Brian Goldner.
… also working on a couple of different approaches, because there is so much mythology in canon to Dungeons & Dragons for live-action television. And there’s been very strong interest. We’ve talked about how many global streamers and terrestrial broadcasters have been very interested in Dungeons & Dragons.CEO Brian Goldner
Hasbro is also working on a previously announced live-action film. The project is in pre-production and scheduled for a 2020 release. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are tapped to direct.
Dungeons and Dragons’ popularity is on the rise over the last few years. A combination of 2014’s Fifth Edition rework, tools to play online, and a pandemic keeping everyone home makes it the perfect time for new adventurers. Mainstream media has pushed D&D’s popularity as well with two “Community” episodes, it being the foundation of “Stranger Things”, and Critical Role taking the internet by storm. In 2020, Dungeons and Dragons sales are up 20% from 2019, according to Screenrant.
Geek Freaks are getting in on the action as well! Co-host Frank will be streaming his first attempt at D&D on Friday 7pm pst. Join him on the Geek Freaks Twitch channel!
