King of the Hill May Return

King of the Hill writer Brent Forrester says the series creators are in negotiations to bring the show back. Brent mentioned the update during a Reddit AMA, and Tech Radar spread the news.

“I am sure Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES. They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill. The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again. The characters have all aged 15 years. The project is sooooo good. Okay I’ve said too much :)”

The political climate will be a hot issue if the series comes back. In the original run, the series did not veer away from Texas politics. Hank Hill was conflicted by a weak handshake from then-candidate George W. Bush. This lead to a discussion of old mentality versus modern politics. Later in the series, Hank befriended former Texas Governor Ann Richards. He lets loose on vacation and moons a hotel lobby. Governor Richards sees the full moon and Hank is ashamed. The two eventually bond and become friends. The great Ann Richards voiced herself in this episode; “Hank and the Great Glass Elevator.” Hank and his family straddle the political divide and would show commonality between Democrats and Republicans.

One hurdle for the show is Hank’s niece Luanne Platter. Sadly, Luanne’s voice actor, Brittany Murphy passed away in 2009. She had an iconic voice and personality that brought Luanne to life. Murphy will be missed and will likely be written off instead of recast.

The show was an inspiration for many of today’s creators. You can see its DNA in character-driven series like Bob’s Burgers and Modern Family. The show’s reemergence could inspire a new generation and bring some unity back to the national conversation.
