Magic: The Gathering artist, Jason Felix, was suspended after allegations of plagiarism arose. The art was for a card called “Crux of Fate” and has a dragon-like creature on one side. This dragon is the cause for concern.
Twitter user @omgscarypet posted a video of them comparing their art to the card and the majority is an exact fit. They even mention the one portion that was redrawn was where the Deviantart watermark was located. Omgscarypet has been very gracious in their reaction.
Jason Felix took to Twitter to give his statement following the news break. He admits to the wrongdoing and knows he can’t be forgiven. He claims to push for Omgscarypet to be the credited artist of the card.
Magic creators, Wizard of the Coast, released a statement on their site.
…”These actions do not reflect the values of Wizards, and, as a result, we will be suspending future work with Jason Felix until we have been able to bring this matter to successful conclusion.”Wizard of the Coast Archive Article 3/30/2021
Omgscarypet has posted a response following the breaking news. They explain the following communications with Jason and WotC.
