Big Changes to Shadowlands in the Next Patch

World of Warcraft has had a rough time lately with both a lackluster expansion and a company-wide sexual harassment scandal. This last week, they have tried to change their headlines.

First, Blizzard will be removing additional developer names from World of Warcraft. These names are easter eggs in the game, meant to honor the creators. But as these figures have come out to be predators, the names are grim reminders.

“It also has updates to improve the game environment for our community, including additional changes to some content to better reflect our shared values, better visibility into the impact of your in-game reports of harassment, and more serious penalties for people engaged in disruptive behavior.” – World of Warcraft Team Press Release

Other changes coming in the next major patch are fan-requested changes. The notable part is many of these changes were strictly denied by Blizzard in the past. Their sudden flexibility is likely the company trying to salvage the expansion while they develop the next one and wait for tensions to cool.

Changes Include:

  • Players can swap covenants at will once they level one completely
  • Alts will not need to complete the covenant campaigns
  • Additional customizations for Nightborne and Lightforge Dranei
  • Legion joins Timewalking, including a Mythic+ version of Legion dungeons
  • Improved scaling in retro raids

There are more minor changes on the horizon. While these do not solve Blizzard’s sexual harassment problems, they are nice changes for the players.
