Amazon Studios has hired Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write a TV series as part of a potential “Tomb Raider” franchise that would include TV, film, and games. Waller-Bridge could also be involved in a potential movie. The TV series will be produced by Amazon Studios’ former Head of Comedy Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt, with Legendary also said to be involved. This is part of Amazon’s multi-platform approach which also includes a new “Tomb Raider” single-player game. The “Tomb Raider” franchise was previously held by MGM but is now owned by Amazon Studios, which is handling the film-TV universe and not MGM. The franchise was previously made into a movie series with Angelina Jolie and a reboot with Alicia Vikander, but a sequel had been delayed by the pandemic. The “Tomb Raider” franchise started as a hit action-adventure game in 1996.
