Star Trek Discovery Coming to an End

The popular science fiction television series “Star Trek: Discovery” will conclude with its fifth season, which will now debut in early 2024 instead of this year as originally planned. The upcoming season will have additional filming, and there are events planned in key markets throughout the year to celebrate the final season’s release. The series has been the flagship modern “Star Trek” series since it launched in 2017, leading to the successful spinoff “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.”

“Discovery” features Sonequa Martin-Green as Captain Michael Burnham, a Black female protagonist, and other LGBTQIA+ characters in a way that had not been seen before in a “Star Trek” show. According to the official logline, Season 5 will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. The final season will also introduce dangerous foes who will stop at nothing to claim the prize for themselves.

The showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise expressed their gratitude to the fans and everyone involved in making “Star Trek: Discovery” a success. They also shared their pride in the show’s contribution to the franchise’s legacy, particularly with representation. They added that if just one person sees themselves, or the possibilities for their future, in a new way because of “Discovery,” then they think they’d have made Gene Roddenberry very proud.

The president of CBS Studios, David Stapf, also expressed his gratitude to the talented cast, led by Sonequa Martin-Green, for their leadership both onscreen and off, helping guide the show from day one. “Discovery” has honored “Star Trek’s” legacy of “infinite diversity in infinite combinations,” representing the best of what humans could be when celebrating their differences.

“Star Trek: Discovery” fans around the world will have to wait until early 2024 to watch the final season of the popular science fiction series. Nonetheless, with the promise of additional filming and planned events throughout the year, fans can look forward to a celebratory and fitting conclusion to the show’s impressive run.
