The Nintendo 3DS and WiiU eShop is closing on March 27, 2023, and many games will no longer be available for legal download. Nintendo’s decision to close eShops has upset fans and lovers of video game history as many games may disappear and never be available again. In response, YouTuber The Completionist spent almost a year buying his way through both libraries, purchasing 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS titles, totaling 1.2TB of data for the Wii U and 267GB for the 3DS. He spent $22,791 and is donating everything he downloaded to the Video Game History Foundation, though the fate of the digital games, in the long run, is unclear.
