Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke are set to star in Marvel’s highly anticipated political thriller, Secret Invasion. The series, based on the popular comic book series of the same name, will explore the clandestine infiltration of powerful organizations and governments by the shape-shifting Skrulls.
Colman, who was first seen in a teaser last year, will play a ruthless MI6 agent, while Clarke’s character, G’iah, has a special connection to the Captain Marvel film series as the daughter of Talos, the lovable Skrull commander played by Ben Mendelsohn.
The story follows a new faction of Skrulls, led by Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik, who have grown tired of waiting for the promise of a new homeland and are taking matters into their own hands. The series will also feature Mendelsohn’s Talos, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Don Cheadle’s James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross.
According to Vanity Fair, Clarke’s character holds a lot of emotions and a certain amount of resentment towards Fury and his friends, who promised a lot of things a long time ago but have failed to deliver. “There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl,” Clarke said. “She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.”
Meanwhile, Jackson revealed that shooting the series taught him “things that even I really didn’t know about Nick Fury” after playing the character onscreen for more than a decade. “It’s giving me an opportunity to explore something other than the badassery of who Nick Fury is,” he said.
The series promises to be an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the inclusion of the Skrulls adding an intriguing new element to the story. With talented actors like Colman and Clarke on board, fans can expect some intense and unforgettable performances.
Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on June 21, and fans are eagerly anticipating what is sure to be a thrilling ride.
