The highly-anticipated trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been released, and it is full of surprises. While the majority of the trailer focuses on Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, one of the highlights is the crossover with the animated series Lower Decks. The trailer reveals the live-action debut of Ensign Beckett Mariner and Ensign Brad Boimler, who will guest star in Strange New Worlds Season 2. The details of the crossover episode’s storyline are still unknown, but it will include both live-action and animated segments.
In addition to the crossover, the trailer showcases the crew’s adventures on uncharted planets. Erica Ortegas displays her daredevil flying skills in a shuttle, and Spock becomes more comfortable in the captain’s chair, even inventing an awkward catchphrase. The trailer also features a major alien invasion that seemingly takes place on Earth, with James T. Kirk, played by Paul Wesley, warning about the risks of working in Starfleet.
Jack Quaid, who plays Ensign Brad Boimler, discussed the challenges of bringing an animated character into live-action and maintaining the character’s nuances. The balance between staying true to the voice and incorporating physicality is a crucial aspect to consider.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered on Paramount+ in 2022 and quickly gained popularity among fans of the franchise. Set ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, the show follows Captain Pike and his crew, while also paying homage to the original 1966 series. Critics have praised the series for its blend of thrilling action and character-driven drama, as well as its talented cast, which includes Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Melissa Navia, Rebecca Romijn, Cecelia Rose Gooding, and Christina Chong.
The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on June 15.
