Battlefield 2042 Playtest Starts Next Week

Battlefield 2042 is the next highly anticipated game in the franchise. Anxious fans can get their first taste next week. DICE and EA are inviting players to test the game between August 8th to 12th with six sessions. Each test session will be three hours, with the final session being nine hours. DICE is focusing on cross-platform performance between PC and consoles.

Spaces are limited, with only a “few thousand” players invited. Those interested in joining the tests must have either a PC or a current-gen system. To register, sign up HERE.

To kick off the testing, Battlefield is releasing a short film in the world of the game. “Battlefield 2042: World of 2042” follows an embedded journalist, Kayvan Bechir, amidst an attack from a hidden organization. The game will not have a campaign, so we will likely see additional “story content” pushing BF’s narrative.

Battlefield 2042 is a turning point for the franchise. CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned in an earnings call that players should “think about Battlefield as a service.” This new mentality puts the game in line with Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone. Wilson says free content updates will be frequent, a hint to the season business model.

We will be streaming Battlefield 2042 upon its release. Join us at twitch.tv/geekfreakspodcast.
