Rockstar suffered a major hack and a lot of GTA 6 was leaked. Hacker Teapot, who recently hacked Uber, breached Rockstar and stole the source code for GTA 5 and 6 plus over 3GB of internal footage from GTA 6.
The newest installment of Grand Theft Auto has been in the works for roughly 10 years and still has a couple more before release. The leaked source code is devastating. Teapot is apparently in talks with Rockstar to pay a ransom and get their source code back. As for GTA 5, Teapot is selling to the highest bidder. The successful game should fetch a high price.
Rockstar has feverishly demanded the removal of all leaked footage from YouTube and alike, making it difficult to share the content. From what we’ve seen, there are two protagonists, one being the franchise’s first woman. GTA 6 will take place in Vice City in the modern day. Many of the classic brands are back, like GTA’s social media parody Life Invader. The leaked game is not complete with a mix of finished and work-in-progress NPCs and cars.
Rockstar released a statement this morning admitting they were attacked. They state the breach will not disrupt development and live services.
As more developments are revealed, we’ll keep you updated.
