Ubisoft Shutting Down Servers for Older Games

Ubisoft shutters additional servers once dedicated for older games. The games affected include Assassin’s Creed 2, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands, Far Cry 2, and more.

The solo campaigns for these games will still be playable. Multiplayer and online features will no longer be available. This includes the Ubisoft Connect rewards and “Unit” currency. Ubisoft recommends players use the last of their currency within the next 60 days.

Expiring features is an evolving norm of the industry. As online games join the retro ranks, their longevity is questioned. To this day, I can play my 1985 Super Mario Bros. the same way I did on the day of purchase. Complete and funtional. In comparison, the original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is missing its best feature, multiplayer. Players must get used to this new reality as companies can not keep servers on forever.

Here is the list of games losing multiplayer and online features:

  • Rainbow Six Vegas
  • Rainbow Six Vegas 2
  • Rainbow Six Lockdown
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier
  • Might & Magic X – Legacy
  • Might & Magic – Clash of Heroes
  • The Settlers 7
  • Splinter Cell Conviction
  • Anno 1404
  • Far Cry 2
  • Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands
  • Assassin’s Creed 2
